"HERE HAS INDIAN BLOOD AND SWEAT": RESISTANCE, ETHNICITY AND FIGHT FOR RECOGNITION FROM THE EXPERIENCE OF 'TAPUIAS DA LAGOA DE TAPARÁ' - RN
Indigenous resistance, Ethnic recognition, Tapuias of Lagoa do Tapará.
The present work deals with the indigenous issue in Rio Grande do Norte from a discussion that involves social organization, struggle for recognition and guarantee of rights. From the experience of the Tapuias Indians of the Lagoa do Tapará, I propose to investigate the indigenous resistance in this community, analyzing their history, memory, social relations and socio-political organization articulated with their patterns of claims. My intention will be to understand how the process of political organization of Tapuias da Lagoa do Tapará and its possible connections with the construction and / or strengthening of the ethnic identity of the group has taken place. In order to do this, I seek to observe the relationships among its members, its social and political organization, and these with the State, with the local public power and with other indigenous and non-indigenous groups - either through partnerships or in a conflictive context.
