PRE-TREATMENTS COMBINED STEAM EXPLOSION - ALKALINE AND ACID-ALKALINE FOR THE PRODUCTION OF CELLULOSIC ETHANOL AND XYLOOLIGOSACCHARIDES FROM GREEN COCONUT SHELL
geen coconut fibers; pre-treatments; steam explosion; acid-alkali pretreatment; second-generation ethanol
Large volumes of green coconut husk waste are generated from the exploitation of the fruit. What arouses interest in the use of this lignocellulosic material as a raw material for the production of biofuels or as precursors of Xylooligosaccharides (XOS), which are sugars not metabolized by the human body and with the wide medicinal application. Therefore, this work aims to evaluate the use of coconut fiber to obtain ethanol and xylooligosaccharides. For this, combined pre-treatment will be applied, using steam explosion, sodium hydroxide, hydrogen peroxide, and sulfuric acid; there will also be a 2² plan with repetition in enzymatic hydrolysis, varying the substrate and enzymatic cocktail Cellic CTec 2 loads; and different biomass fermentation strategies, performing simultaneous, semi-simultaneous and separate saccharification and fermentation, using Pichia stipitis Y7124 and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (CAT-1) as biocatalysts.
