Remediation of soils contaminated with Pb
Electromagnetic Remediation, Reactive Permeable Barriers, Cork, Lead
Among heavy metals, lead has a high degree of toxicity to man and the environment. Among the
techniques studied, Electrokinetic Remediation (RE) is an "in situ" technology that consists of the
controlled application of low intensity direct current through the ground between appropriately distributed
electrodes. One of the most important advantages of the technology is the efficiency for treatment of soils
of low hydraulic permeability, where other techniques of natural or traditional attenuation are not
suitable. The objective of this work was to evaluate the application of RE to soil Pb removal, Pb
determination via cathodic redissolution voltammetry by standard addition and soil toxicity evaluation
after treatment by monitoring the planting of sunflower seeds (Helianthus annuus ). Finally, the second
part of electromagnetic remediation work integrated into the permeable reactive barrier in order to
remove Pb in contaminated soils.
