"DEVELOPMENT OF A SOLAR DISTILLER FOR WATER DESSALINIZATION IN BRAZILIAN SEMIARID".
Brazilian semiarid; solar distiller; desalination
The Brazilian semiarid corresponds to approximately 11.4% of the national territory. Its low rainfall levels do not allow the existence of rivers and other perennial surface reservoirs during drought and also favor the region obtaining the highest sunshine rates in the country. The semi-arid also suffers from the salinity of groundwater, which needs to be desalinated for human consumption. This characteristic of the water table has motivated the federal government to allocate large amounts of money in desalination systems over the last few years. Realizing the imminent need of the Brazilian backlands for fresh water and taking advantage of the generous supply of solar energy in the region, this work is aimed at the development of a solar distiller from the study and improvement of existing equipment for this purpose and that fit better to the reality of rural communities.
