SUMMARY:

This PhD project aims to synthesize and characterize 2D borophene by liquid-phase exfoliation using dimethylformamide (DMF) as solvent for application in perovskite solar cells and wearable sweat sensors. Borophene will be synthesized from commercial boron powder via ultrasonication, followed by detailed characterization by techniques such as X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Raman, FTIR, UV-visible and XPS spectroscopies, high- resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM-FEG), atomic force microscopy (AFM), BET analysis and zeta potential. These analyses aim to evaluate the morphological, crystallographic, chemical and electrochemical properties of the material, focusing on obtaining nanosheets with low defect density. Borophene will be integrated into perovskite photovoltaic devices, manufactured by inkjet printing, and into wearable sensors based on PANI/borophene nanocomposites for dopamine detection, using cyclic voltammetry. The research aims to contribute to the advancement of sustainable and health monitoring technologies, taking advantage of the unique properties of borophene, such as high electrical conductivity, flexibility and biocompatibility, to improve the efficiency of solar cells and the sensitivity of electrochemical sensors.
