IMPLEMENTATION OF PRE-OPERATIVE NURSING CONSULTATION FOR OPHTHALMOLOGY PATIENTS IN A UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL.

Demographic changes, such as population aging, have contributed to the growing demand for ophthalmological care worldwide. Brazil, not unlike the global scenario, requires the expansion of interventions, including ophthalmological consultations and surgeries. This challenge is faced by the Unified Health System (SUS), which is crucial for access to these services. In the context of healthcare described, it is important to highlight the interdisciplinarity within which nursing operates, thus contributing to the understanding that the field in question demonstrates great potential for the development of this specialized profession. As a standard, the methodological-based care practice that guides nursing care is the Nursing Process (NP), referred to as Nursing Consultation (NC) when conducted in non-hospital settings. In this sense, this study was motivated by inquiries aimed at implementing preoperative nursing consultation for ophthalmologic surgical patients in the outpatient clinic of this specialty at Cassiano Antônio Moraes University Hospital (HUCAM). To achieve this, a qualitative approach was adopted with a Convergent Care Research (CCR) method, which is divided into four phases: conception, instrumentation, scrutiny, and analysis. In the conception phase, it was defined that this study proposes to implement preoperative nursing consultation for ophthalmologic surgical patients. During the instrumentation phase, with the development site being the ophthalmology outpatient clinic of the Hospital Universitário Cassiano Antonio Moraes - HUCAM/UFES/EBSERH, professionals with nursing backgrounds and experience in the subject were invited to participate, and the data collection technique will be carried out through convergence groups, which allow for the collective construction of innovations and changes. The groups began their meetings in July 2024 and are ongoing as of the present moment (August 2024). In the scrutiny phase, the researcher immerses in the reality of care practice to collect information. The analysis phase is interconnected with the investigative process and is being developed in stages, thus ensuring the maintenance of the adopted method's concepts. The results of this research will be presented as products that can be incorporated into the professional practice of nurses working in the field of surgical ophthalmology care, contributing to the implementation of preoperative nursing consultation, and improving the quality of perioperative nursing care provided in outpatient surgery settings or similar environments.
