SUMMARY:

Teacher training is a continuous and contextualized process essential for improving pedagogical practice by integrating initial education with ongoing professional development, characterizing lifelong learning. In Distance Education (DE), this process faces additional challenges, requiring specific competencies such as effective pedagogical mediation, didactic organization of Virtual Learning Environments (VLE), and critical use of technological resources. DE has consolidated as a strategy to democratize access to higher education in Brazil, expanding educational opportunities and reinforcing the need for training programs that promote qualified performance in VLE. Learning pathways emerge as a relevant methodological strategy, enabling structured, progressive, and personalized training paths that respect teachers' diverse experiences, rhythms, and needs. At the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), whose official distance learning platform is Moodle Mandacaru, a gap is identified in offering initiation modules and support materials for teachers, compromising the continuity of initial training. Many teachers face difficulties organizing virtual classrooms, selecting, and pedagogically using VLE resources, and conducting pedagogical mediation, which are critical for DE effectiveness. This study aims to investigate how a self-instructional educational module, structured with learning pathways, can contribute to the continuing education of DE teachers at UFRN by enhancing pedagogical mediation and Moodle Mandacaru course organization. Employing a qualitative, applied research approach with exploratory and descriptive objectives, guided by Contextualized Instructional Design, the study includes a systematic literature mapping, module and support material development, implementation in Moodle Mandacaru, and evaluation through questionnaires assessing effectiveness. The technical products developed include a self-instructional module and an interactive e-book with practical guidelines and tutorials for organizing virtual classrooms and pedagogical mediation in DE. The expected outcome is to contribute to improving DE teachers' practice and provide didactic material adopted by UFRN’s distance education secretariat.
