SUMMARY:

Education is widely recognized as a matter of global relevance and as fundamental to our growth. However, its focus is often primarily on preparation for the job market, approached in a traditional and utilitarian manner. This scenario tends to discourage students who, although they acknowledge the importance of education, often feel disconnected from school. In this context, the issue investigated in this work concerns ways to minimize some of these problems through the improvement of the school environment, fostering collaboration between higher and basic education. The study proposes an interdisciplinary project model that can be developed into a viable technology to enhance the physical spaces of public schools through interventions carried out by undergraduate students in Visual Arts, Architecture, and Design, in co-participation with school students and the broader school community. Adopting a qualitative approach, this research is characterized as an ex post facto study, based on previous experiences related to university extension activities. It draws on classical educational theorists such as Dewey and Freire, as well as concepts from Design, Environmental Psychology, and Architecture, supported by authors such as Brown, Kelley, Pinheiro, and Elali. The study employs resources and techniques such as document analysis, adaptation of existing games to the school context, and recording experiences in a project diary. It is expected that this initiative will promote integration between different educational levels, fostering knowledge exchange and greater ownership of the school and its educational processes by students, as well as enhancing problem-solving practices. Furthermore, it is expected to contribute to better preservation of school spaces, increased student autonomy, and greater appreciation for and interest in manual and creative work. The final product of the research will be a guideline manual for project implementation, allowing it to be replicated in other institutions and by diverse teams.
