SUMMARY:

Healthcare professionals need to continue learning throughout their lives so that their healthcare practices remain up to date with advances in science and technology. However, these professionals face a high demand for activities, which limits their time for traditional training. Carrying out Permanent Education in Health (PEH) only with courses with long content that are not targeted to specific demands may be ineffective, as some professionals do not start or drop out of these courses due to lack of time or motivation. Some of these difficulties in operationalizing PEH can be addressed with microlearning, a pedagogical approach that makes it possible to offer small units of content on demand for immediate application in the work context. When microlearning provides a very large amount of small content, professionals face the challenge of finding necessary content to meet their needs at a given time. Therefore, the objective of this study was to design appropriate ways for healthcare professionals to find desired content with digital support during the PEH process according to microlearning. The theoretical foundations involved PEH, information and communication technologies, digital educational resources, the Meaningful Learning theory, microlearning, and information systems and architecture. This objective was achieved through exploratory research conducted in four stages. In Stage 1, opportunities for improvement in information search and consultation were identified through a survey (questionnaire) with health professionals. As a result, it was decided to direct the focus of this work to support the search for content of interest to professionals at a given time and context. In Stage 2, an information architecture on safe medication administration was defined, based on the analysis of educational materials and review by nurses. In Stage 3, the interface of a digital solution was designed to search for content that can satisfy the informational needs of professionals. Finally, in Stage 4, a comparative evaluation of the statement of informational needs in the designed interface and in another similar existing interface was carried out. The results of this research can contribute to the improvement of PEH by improving the digital supports inspired by the proposal of this work. Thus, the search for content will be more flexible and adapted to the daily demands of healthcare professionals, contributing to their lifelong learning.
