SUMMARY:

The possibility of integrating Digital Information and Communication Technologies
(DICT) in education is redefining teaching and learning practices and expanding the
classroom into the digital environment. Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) can
offer more flexibility to students and provide a variety of educational materials,
including Open Educational Resources (OER) and Learning Objects (LO), crucial for
knowledge construction. The quality of these materials depends on the design solutions
applied in their production to ensure a good user experience. The Federal University of
Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), through the Secretariat of Distance Education (SEDIS),
plays a significant role in producing educational materials and digital books for various
courses available on VLEs. However, challenges have been identified, particularly
related to the technical training of undergraduate scholarship holders who work
professionally in the sector, as well as the dynamic and collaborative nature of OER,
which can result in visual inconsistencies. Thus, the present research developed within
the Graduate Program in Innovation in Educational Technologies (PPgITE), in the
research line of Educational Technologies Development, aims to systematize editorial
guidelines for the production of OER in digital book format. The objectives are to
identify current editorial design practices used by the team, map and prioritize editorial
design guidelines applicable to OER production, and develop a guide of best practices
to be validated by experts. The theoretical framework is based on studies of
Instructional, Graphic, Editorial, Interaction Design, Educational Materials, Open
Educational Resources, Open and Distance Education. The research methodology
follows a qualitative approach, applied in nature. It is exploratory and descriptive in its
objectives and documentary and bibliographic in its procedures. As a result, practical
solutions are expected to improve the consistency and quality of these materials and
optimize OER production processes. Ultimately, the aim is to positively impact the
professional practice of the involved designers by offering a clear and accessible guide
that can enhance the creation process, contributing to a richer professional experience
for these scholarship holders.
