SUMMARY:

Limitations in the formal repertoire of beginning Architecture and Urban Planning students directly impact the conception of architectural form, compromising both the development of learning and the training necessary for future professional practice. In the teaching-learning process of architectural design, although many studies historically explore the concept of formal design conception and others associate the use of games as adidactic-pedagogical resource for the conception of architectural form, there is a need for studies that relate how analog pedagogical games can favor the learning of beginning students, making the design process more explicit and assisting in the development of repertoire. This research aims to investigate teaching methods and didactic-pedagogical resources aimed at the conception of architectural form by beginning Architecture and Urban Planning students, as support for the design process and the development of a design repertoire. Specifically, it seeks to understand and verify how learning based on analog games can favor this teaching-learning process and contribute to the renewal of the design studio. To this end, it proposes conducting a qualitative research approach in the context of introductory design, involving students and faculty of first-year Architecture and Urban Planning courses, as well as faculty with experience using analog pedagogical games in design education. The research is purposeful and applied (action research) with the implementation of formal design workshops. Data will be collected through non-participant observation of an introductory course, interviews with teachers, forms administered to students in the course under analysis, and participant observation in the planned workshops, with the application of a form to participating students after experiments. The data obtained will be subject to content analysis and triangulation with the precepts of the theoretical framework, empirical studies, the proposed pedagogical game, and the application of the experiments. As a result, we hope to evaluate the potential and limitations of analog game-based learning as a teaching tool to support the design process of beginning students and its contribution to the development of a repertoire that aids formal conception.
