SUMMARY:

The perioperative period is a challenging time that is subject to constant change, requiring the healthcare team to pay greater attention to possible errors or adverse events that may occur as a result of the healthcare provided. Therefore, the present study aims to develop and validate an educational booklet for nursing professionals on patient care during the perioperative period. The process of developing the educational booklet consisted of two stages: 1) an integrative review, to collect and select the data that will compose the booklet; 2) a methodological study, with the development of the educational booklet and, finally, validation of the educational material by expert judges. The findings of the integrative review reinforce the complexity of perioperative care and highlight the importance of nurses in all stages of the surgical process. The results of this integrative review demonstrate the relevance of nursing care during the perioperative period, from the preoperative to the postoperative phase. The role of nurses is essential for patient safety, prevention of complications and quality of care. In the preoperative period, the highlights are anamnesis, physical examination, emotional preparation and infection prevention. In the intraoperative period, the nursing team ensures monitoring of vital signs, application of safe surgery checklists and direct assistance to the surgeon and anesthesiologist. In the postoperative period, monitoring in the recovery room, pain control and assessment of the patient's general condition are essential to avoid complications. In addition, effective communication and Systematization of Nursing Care in the Perioperative Period were identified as fundamental strategies to reduce errors and optimize care. As a result of this research, an educational booklet was developed to guide nurses and nursing technicians on best practices in the perioperative period. Structured in eight topics, the booklet will cover everything from the fundamentals of perioperative care to ethical and patient safety aspects, promoting the standardization of conduct and improvement of the care provided. It is concluded that nursing care in the perioperative period is multifaceted and requires ongoing training, comprehensive patient care and evidence-based practices. The importance of continuing education as a basis for ensuring safe and quality care at all stages of the surgical process is reinforced. In this context, the educational booklet emerges as an indispensable teaching resource, promoting continuous and accessible learning. Through a clear and interactive approach, the booklet facilitates the acquisition of essential knowledge, effectively connecting theory and practice. In addition, it acts as a strategic tool for training nursing professionals, contributing to the updating of evidence-based practices and strengthening the skills required for perioperative care.
