EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES IN TELECOLPOSCOPY IN PRIMARY HEALTH CARE: AN EXPERIENCE REPORT
Keywords: Primary Health Care; Colposcopy; Telemedicine; Health Education; Cervical Cancer.
Cervical cancer remains a major public health issue in Brazil, with high morbidity and mortality rates, especially among socially vulnerable populations. In recent years, changes in national screening guidelines, with the incorporation of HPV-DNA testing as the primary method, have required the reorganization of healthcare pathways and increased availability of colposcopic examinations. In this scenario, telemedicine emerges as a strategic tool to expand access, reduce inequalities, and strengthen the resolution capacity of Primary Health Care (PHC). This study aims to report the experience of implementing and carrying out educational activities with nursing and medical residents in PHC, related to cervicovaginal sampling for cytology and HPVDNA testing, as well as the acquisition of colposcopic images for remote reporting through telemedicine. This is a descriptive, qualitative study, designed as an experience report. Participants were selected via the municipal regulation system of Caicó (RN), and collections were carried out at the EMCM School of Medicine Clinic, involving residents under faculty supervision. The experience is expected to contribute to strengthening residents’ training, standardizing screening techniques, developing skills in sample collection and colposcope use, and supporting the integration of digital reports into the SALUS system. The initiative is expected to reinforce the role of PHC in organized cervical cancer screening, promote wider diagnostic coverage, and serve as relevant support for future permanent education and health innovation policies.
