DEVELOPMENT OF A CURRICULAR COMPONENT FOR TEACHING DRUG PRESCRIPTION BY NURSES.
Drug Prescription; Teaching; Nursing.
The drugs prescription by nurses, regulated in Brazil since the 1980s, constitutes an advanced care practice and a strategic element in Primary Health Care, especially within the context of the Unified Health System. Despite legal support, impasses related to social and institutional acceptance persist, as well as weaknesses in professional training that compromise safety and clinical autonomy. This study aimed to develop a specific curricular component for teaching drugs prescription in undergraduate Nursing courses, based on scientific evidence and national and international patient safety guidelines. This is a methodological study for the development of an educational product, carried out between 2024 and 2026, which used an integrative review of the scientific literature with searches in the Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed and SciELO databases and document analysis of legal instruments and guidelines for professional training. The results highlighted a scarcity of studies and an absence of curricular components focused on drugs prescription in undergraduate programs, despite the relevance of this practice to primary care. Based on these findings, a proposal for the curricular component "Good Practices in Drugs Prescription by Nurses" was developed, with a workload of 30 hours, covering content on legal frameworks, medication process safety, prescription writing criteria, clinical reasoning, and practical application in care situations. It is concluded that the pedagogical objective of the proposal was achieved, since the curricular component was based on curricular, legal, and technical guidelines aimed at teaching drugs prescription by nurses. This structure will not only ensure normative and scientific compliance but also contribute to addressing the insecurity reported by nurses according to scientific literature.
