SUMMARY:

The use of the partogram is recommended for the systematic recording and monitoring of labor progress. However, studies indicate low adherence and incomplete completion in health services. Therefore, it is necessary to understand which educational strategies are most effective in the in-service training of health professionals for the implementation of this instrument during labor. The objective of this study is to conduct an integrative literature review to identify the most effective educational strategies in the in-service training of health professionals for the implementation of the partogram in the context of labor. This is an integrative literature review, developed in the following stages: (1) problem identification; (2) literature search; (3) data evaluation; (4) data analysis; and (5) presentation. The guiding question was developed based on the PICo strategy: what educational strategies are adopted in the in-service training of health professionals for the effective implementation of the partogram during labor? Of the 419 articles found, 10 met the criteria and were selected for this review. Based on a critical analysis of the studies, three thematic categories were structured: (1) in-service training as an organizational strategy for implementing the partogram; (2) educational approaches in in-service training: competency development and training limitations; and (3) methodological weaknesses and challenges to the sustainability of implementation. The results indicate that educational strategies have better effects when accompanied by actions within the service itself, through continuous supervision and periodic feedback to professionals, in addition to quality improvement processes, including participatory methodologies, continuous monitoring of professionals, management involvement, and continuing health education. However, the analysis of the studies also revealed gaps in the description of educational interventions, especially in the description of theoretical foundations, teaching-learning methodologies, or how the interventions impacted the development of clinical reasoning among professionals during the actions. Barriers such as lack of human resources, work overload, structural limitations of the service, and resistance of professionals to change were also described as challenges to consolidating the use of the partogram in services.
