SUMMARY:

It is through games that we begin our relationship with the world of culture, which is
developed and expanded throughout our lives. Therefore, we must value their
presence in schools in order to contribute to the various expressions of physical
culture and movement and, consequently, enable the comprehensive education of
students. The objective of this research is to develop and apply a teaching unit with
the subject of board games as a pedagogical possibility for high school physical
education classes in a state school in Paraíba. The study was conducted at Félix
Daltro State Elementary and High School, a public school in the state school system
of Paraíba, located in the urban area of the city of Taperoá. This teaching unit was
developed in the second semester of the 2024 school year, during 14 classes lasting
45 minutes each, with students enrolled in the second year of high school. Data
collection was carried out based on the development of the teaching unit, and the
information was collected through participant observation, the application of a
questionnaire, and notes from the teacher's field diary. The approach used is
qualitative, and the typology adopted is action research, which used content analysis
through the categorization technique for data analysis, carried out in three basic
stages: pre-analysis, analytical description, and inferential interpretation. The results
demonstrated the importance of diversifying the content and pedagogical practices
used in Physical Education classes so that students have access to the same
knowledge in a democratic way, respecting their differences. The research concluded
that, even with space limitations, there was an increase in student participation in
classes, which showed a greater appreciation of the subject on their part, in addition
to the important role played by Physical Education both for academic training and for
the formation of citizens capable of acting autonomously and critically in society.
