AREA: Morfologia
SUMMARY:

The initial effects of alcohol are well-being and pleasure, but continued use causes dependence and deleterious effects on the body, especially in women. The use of alcohol by women during pregnancy has negative effects onfetal development, being one of the main teratogenic agents. Alcohol consumption during breastfeeding is little observed, but the literature has shown that alcohol may be present in breast milk and affect the development of the baby. The liver is an organ that performs important functions for the maintenance of the body, including the metabolism of drugs and toxins such as alcohol. Research indicates that alcohol consumption by adult individuals causes reversible and irreversible damage, compromising the organ function and health of individuals. Thus, the objective of this study is to analyze the liver morphology of mice generated under the influence of alcohol during pregnancy and / or lactation. For this 23 mice (Mus musculus) male and female, were separated into 4 groups: the Control group (C): offspring from mothers who did not receive alcohol during pregnancy and lactation; Pregnancy Group (EtG): offspring from mothers who received 15% alcohol only during pregnancy; Lactation group (EtL): offspring from mothers who received 15% alcohol only during lactation; and Pregnancy + lactation group (EtGL): offspring from a mother who received alcohol throughout the gestation and lactation period. After 34 to 36 days of life the animals were weighed and euthanized, had some organs removed and preserved for histological processing and analysis. Histopathological analyzes were performed through qualitative description of tissues and emiquantitative scores of the main lesions, as well as stereological analyzes to obtain the organ volume through the Cavaliere method. All groups treated with alcohol presented findings of toxicity and tissue damage, being GtGL the most visually damaged when compared to the others.
