Thermodinamic aspects of High Level Cyclonic Vortexes in the Northeast of Brazil
HLCV, tracking, thermodynamic
This work aims to study the thermodynamic aspects of the High Level Cyclonic Vortexes (HLCV) in Brazil using a detection algorithm using ERA-Interim data from the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) reanalysis and the Climate Prediction Center (CPC) data set from the NCEP (National Centers for Environmental Prediction), both from 1987 to the present. The validation of the algorithm will be based on the comparison of results obtained by previous studies and subjective analysis of the meteorological fields of vorticity and current lines at high levels. With the algorithm it will be possible to create a specific climatology for dry and humid vortices. The focus is to understand how the thermodynamic characteristics of the VCAN differ between their genesis and the consequence in the precipitation in Northeast Brazil. Synoptic and thermodynamic characteristics will be evaluated separately from this point of view, seeking a better characterization.
