CONTINUING EDUCATION IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION: A STUDY ON THE PROPOSAL OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF NATAL

The Municipal Department of Education (SME) in Natal has been providing continuing education to all teaching professionals, including Physical Education teachers. The training program offered to the teachers of Physical Education in Natal, marked by the continuity of the meetings and the teachers’protagonism in the process of planning and execution of these formative actions, aroused the interest for this research. Therefore, our research object is the continuing education program of the Physical Education teachers in the municipal network in Natal. The research problem consisted of the following study question: how has the SME / Physical Education teachers 'continuing education program been configured, considering their historical trajectory, their pedagogical planning and the teachers' conception? In this way, we have as general objective to present the program of continuous formation instituted by the SME for the teachers of Physical Education of the Municipal Public Net of Natal, as well as to describe its historical route; Discuss the process of planning and execution of continuing education meetings for the period between 2014 and 2016; Finally, to identify the vision of the participating teachers about the continuous formation instituted by SME / Natal. Regarding methodological procedures, we opted for the descriptive research of a qualitative approach. The participants of our research were all the teachers who attended the continuing education offered by the municipality of Natal in the period between 2014-2016, pedagogical advisors of the Physical Education team of SME/ Natal. We used the technique of participant observation and for data collection we used the logbook produced by the team of trainers. We also analyzed institutional documents, such as the Training Proposal and advice of the municipality of Natal, the annual reports of the continuous training and the evaluation sheets of the training meetings. Regarding the data analyzed so far, it was considered that there is no model to be followed in a continuing education program, but from our research on, we highlighted some basic principles which were characterized as essential to think of an innovative model of continuing education For Physical Education teachers: training as a continuous process and as a space for reflection; The teacher as the protagonist of the training; The approximation of continuing education with the reality of the school context; The appreciation of teachers' knowledge; The relation between theory and practice; Partnerships with higher education institutions.
