RESUMO:

This work had as main objective the proposal of a new methodology in the detection of arboviruses Zika and Chikungunya using tools of Biospectroscopy and multivariate classification. Attenuated Total Reflectance (ATR) spectroscopy associated with Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was used to evaluate the ability of the technique to correctly classify biological samples into groups defined as positive (CHIKV +; ZIKV +) and Negatives (CHIKV- and ZIKV-) for the presence of viruses. The multivariate analysis algorithms used were Linear Discriminant Analysis (PCA-LDA), Linear Discriminant Analysis (SPA-LDA) and Genetic Algorithm-Linear Discriminant Analysis (GA-LDA). The performance of the technique was evaluated by means of calculations of sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, which were able to classify the samples infected with the Zika and Chikungunya virus into categories, differentiating those with the virus from those considered healthy, with sensitivity and specificity of up to 100% depending on the algorithm used. The results were encouraging and showed that the spectroscopy used in conjunction with multivariate analysis techniques has the potential to detect and identify the variations caused by the presence of the Zika and Chikungunya viruses in biological samples and to provide fast and low cost results in comparison to techniques used in laboratory routines.
