RESUMO:

OBJECTIVE: Analyze all cases of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) due to the use of invasive devices (central venous catheter, urinary catheters, mechanical ventilator) identified in an adult UTI of Hospital Universitário Onofre Lopes. METHODOLOGY:Descriptive, epidemiological and retrospective study. Data were collected in Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheets and the variables: gender, age, average length of hospitalization, invasive procedures, cause of hospitalization, infection site, isolated microorganisms, clinical outcome of the patient, profile of antimicrobials used and resistance were analyzed by statistical tests (Test Qui-Quadrado, Spearman, Friedman).RESULTS:Through notifications from the CCIH, 130 cases of IRAS were identified, being 44.6% and 55.4% in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Patients of the male and female gender were also affected and the mean age was 58.8 years. There was an increasing density in the occurrence of infections in older age groups in cases involving patients aged ≤ 45 and <75 years. The devices most used were urinary catheter, central venous catheter and mechanical ventilator, in order and the type of IRAS most observed was VAP.The isolated microorganisms belong mostly to the group of Gram-negative bacteria, with a higher prevalence of the following bacterial species: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae e Acinetobacter baumannii. The most prescribed antimicrobial was meropenem, a carbapenem. No statistically significant associations were found between the use rate and the incidence density of each type of infection or between the variables "age, length of hospital stay, number of devices" versus death.CONCLUSION:The knowledge of the profile of these infections through nationally standardized diagnostic criteria, the analysis of the different risk factors involved in each case and the correct notification of these infections contributes directly to the implementation of more effective measures of control of IRAS and its prevention in health services.
