RESUMO:

Some animals perceive the changes brought about by environmental rhythms in a way that synchronizes their biological cycles in order to achieve greater advantage or expectation of survival for the species itself. This work analyzed the presence of comb turtle on the southern coast of the State of Rio Grande do Norte and its nesting behavior in relation to the type of lunar phase. The records from the nocturnal and diurnal monitoring of TAMAR-NR occurred in the reproductive seasons from 2005/2006 to 2015/2016 were analyzed. The 10 reproductive seasons had a total number of records of 4807, and of these, the records with presence of the flagrant time were 1301. The seasons analyzed presented monthly records peaks occurring in the months of January to March. The most frequent times of individuals caught on the beach were between 20-24hs. Analyzing the occurrences of the nesting process of type "ML", "CD" and "SD", in relation to the lunar visibility at the moment of occurrence, CD type records were observed in greater quantity at the moment when there was no presence of the moon in the sky, while "ML" and "SD" occurred homogeneously and no relation was found with the visibility of the moon in the sky. As for the lunar phases, the number of records of beach specimens remained homogeneous in all phases, with a higher frequency of records during the crescent and waning phases of the Kuipier test. It was observed that the minimum frequency occurred specifically during full moon days. The internide interval of Eretmochelys imbricata is approximately half of the lunar cycle, so this species can synchronize its nesting time with the Moon cycle. The lunar angle was calculated over several seasons for remigration turtles, noting the absence of the preferred lunar phase for nesting in different seasons.
