Infection with hemosporid has been studied in several parts of the world, as this infection is considered an important factor in the decline of populations of several species of birds. In this way, the main objective of this work is to evaluate the prevalence of hemosporids in Caatinga birds present in the ecological station of Seridó. Data were collected at the Seridó Ecological Station, located in the city of Serra Negra do Norte, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. Data collection was carried out in four periods, two droughts and two rainy seasons, beginning in June 2013 until December 2014. During the four capture sessions, we sampled a total of 779 birds, comprising a total of 9 families and 20 species. The total prevalence obtained in the two years was 54%, with no difference between dry and rainy seasons. The environmental conditions of ESEC-Seridó in the years of collection were favorable for the development of avian malaria vectors. In another moment the relation between the presence of ectoparasites and hemoparasite was observed, this relation was quite significant, in which the presence of hemoparasite causes the absence of ectoparasite in the birds. The prevalence of hemoparasite in ESEC-Seridó is worrying, as rates of hemoparasites found in bird communities are high, especially when compared to other studies performed in Brazil. In view of this, it will be necessary to verify what consequences these rates can affect the population dynamics of birds in the Caatinga.
