Health professionals need to talk to the pregnant woman about her partner's participation in prenatal care, as well as provide adequate care whenever she is present. The general objective of this study was to develop a proposal for a training course on men's prenatal care for health professionals in the Basic Units of a municipality in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte. This is a descriptive-exploratory study with a qualitative approach, carried out in the municipality of Riachuelo, in Rio Grande do Norte, with nurses, doctors and nursing technicians, pregnant women and their partners. The study complied with the ethical foundations of Resolutions nº 466/2012 and was ethically approved by opinion number 5,463,151. The study included 13 pregnant women, 13 parents and 12 health professionals, four nurses, two physicians, six nursing technicians and 11 community health agents. The analysis of the collected material enabled the construction of thematic axes related to the perception of the participants in relation to prenatal care for men: 1.Importance of the presence of the man/father in the prenatal consultation; 2.Difficulties for the participation of the man/father in the prenatal consultation; 3. Use of health education to facilitate the father/man's participation in prenatal care; 4.Professional training for implementing quality prenatal care for men. In view of the participants' perceptions and needs regarding men's prenatal care, together with the regulations of the Ministry of Health, a proposal for a professional training course was prepared. It is expected that the results of the study will be used to understand and provide health education for professionals, so that they are able to develop humanized and quality care for men in prenatal care.
