SUMMARY:

Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an immune-mediated, chronic, progressive, inflammatory, and neurodegenerative disease. The actions of a multidisciplinary team in the treatment of MS can have a significant impact on overall health, helping patients to cope more positively with the difficulties arising from the illness. The role of the clinical pharmacist is crucial for the safe and effective guidance of the patient; however, there is often a gap in the practical training of undergraduate and postgraduate students on this specific topic. Therefore, there is a need to develop an educational strategy to train these undergraduate and postgraduate students in the care of these patients. Objective: To evaluate role-playing as an educational teaching strategy for undergraduate and postgraduate students at a teaching hospital regarding pharmaceutical guidance on medications used in multiple sclerosis. Method: A quasi-experimental, applied research study with a quantitative approach was conducted with 17 undergraduate and postgraduate students. The intervention was divided into three stages: 1) Assessment of prior skills using a checklist applied during a real clinical session (pre-test); 2) Educational intervention using the Role play active methodology, utilizing 13 simulated clinical cases, followed by an expository-dialogical lesson; 3) Reassessment of skills using the same checklist (post-test) and application of a satisfaction questionnaire. Results: A significant improvement in student performance was observed. The average score on the checklist increased from 2.73 (SD=1.47) in the pre-test to 7.28 (SD=1.32) in the post-test, representing an average gain of 4.55 points. The satisfaction questionnaire (applied to 16 participants) revealed a high degree of acceptance of the methodology: 100% of the students liked the teaching method, 93.8% strongly agreed that the method was useful and effective, and 87.5% stated that the methodology provided diverse materials and activities. Conclusion: Roleplaying proved to be a highly effective and well-accepted educational strategy for developing skills in pharmaceutical guidance for patients with MS. The methodology filled an important training gap, promoting substantial gains in knowledge, selfconfidence, and practical and communicative skills, aligning with guidelines for critical and patient-centered pharmaceutical training.
