JANELAS PANORÂMICAS: a (Re)invenção da Casa do Estudante do Rio Grande do Norte

This research was developed in the Professional Master in Architecture, Project and Environment Program of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (PPAPMA-UFRN) intending to promote the discussion about the interventions in built patrimony in the city of Natal, state of Rio Grande do Norte, highlighting the possibility of compatibilizing preservation and conservation of the Casa do Estudante (CERN) building to the demands of uses and new technologies, approaching the theme "Preservation and Conservation of Built Patrimony", aiming to project architectural intervention in a building of historical patrimonial value in light of patrimony theories, supported by the premise of the viability of an intervention in the built patrimony integrated to both cultural and natural landscapes. In order to subsidize the draft, there was a specific bibliographic review about the theme in which were studied precedent theoretical referential with thematics similar to this one. There was characterization of the Casa do Estudante building and its surroundings through studies following the investigative line of Urban Routes to apprehend the landscapes together with the elaboration of an architectural programming, from the definition of goals, going through the creation of a concept and an architectonic parti, to reaching the level of the architectural draft. The work's goals are the contribution to the patrimonial valorization of Casa do Estudante, the compliance with the pre-existent2 context to current user demands, by preserving, as much as possible, the Casa do Estudante's original and essential formal-esthetic characteristics and the proposition of the diversity of uses to promote the Casa do Estudante's economic sustainability and its surroundings vitality. By following the approach of current interventionists practices in light of contemporary restoration theories and considering authenticity, integrity and distinguishability attributes, the work's proposition includes an architectonic intervention in the Casa do Estudante building contemplating, beyond choosing an interventionist posture in compliance with its historical patrimonial value, enhancing the potential of the cultural landscape of Cidade Alta neighborhood, which is located in Natal Historical Center, of the natural landscapes (Potengi River) and of the requalification of the surroundings of Casa do Estudante, allowing the viability of an intervention in the built patrimony integrated with both cultural and natural landscapes.
