SUMMARY:

Introduction: Anemia is a clinical condition that compromises the number of hemoglobin in the blood. It is considered a potential global public health problem for pregnant women and children. Anemia significantly affects the individual's motor and cognitive development, in pregnant women and children, and increases the risk of maternal and perinatal mortality. Anemia has several types and classifications, namely: Aplastic anemia (defect in the production of red blood cells), megaloblastic anemia (defect in the maturation of red blood cells), iron deficiency anemia (defect in hemoglobin synthesis), thalassemia (genetic defects) or hemoglobinopathies, sickle cell anemia (defect in the synthesis of abnormal hemoglobin) and, last but not least, hemolytic anemia (defect in the physical part of the red blood cell. Objective: To analyze the epidemiological profile of Hospitalization, Hospital Costs and Mortality due to Anemia in children and adolescents aged 0 to 19 years in Brazil, from 2013 to 2023. Methodology: The present study is an ecological study. The present work will evaluate mortality from anemia in Brazil from 2013 to 2023, as well as the costs per hospital stay for children and adolescents aged 0 to 19 years, between 2014 and 2024, respectively. Public data was used, extracted from health information systems. Conclusion: The present work aims to expand the discussion started, as well as build a great debate about anemia, causes and treatment within the Health System, professionals and society. Supporting questions and improving new studies that strengthen public policies, the SUS and accessible treatment for the most vulnerable population. It also proposes the development of new studies as a way of strengthening literature for the purpose of discussing the topic studied.
