SUMMARY:

The present study aims to analyze the conditions of remote work at the State Secretariat of Public Health of Rio Grande do Norte (SESAP), based on the transformations driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, which accelerated the adoption of remote work as a measure to ensure safety and the continuity of work activities. Based on State Decree No. 31,540/2022 and SEI Ordinance No. 788/2023, the remote and hybrid work regime was implemented at SESAP, facing challenges such as limited infrastructure, technological adaptation, and regulation of remote work. The research was conducted as a cross-sectional, descriptive, and quantitative study, including SESAP employees who worked remotely between 2020 and 2022. Data collection was carried out using a sociodemographic questionnaire and the application of the Work Context Assessment Scale (WCAS), sent to employees via the Electronic Information System (SEI). The WCAS was used to capture individuals' perceptions of their work context, based on three factors: Work Organization (WO), Work Conditions (WC), and Socioprofessional Relations (SR). Among the 54 employees who responded to the questionnaire, the majority (77.8%) were women, reflecting the predominance of females in the sample. The analysis of Work Organization revealed an average score of 3.11, indicating a critical situation marked by an excessive work pace (average of 3.35), deadline pressure (average of 3.52), and performance monitoring (average of 3.87). These findings suggest that employees face a heavy workload and high pressure in their activities. The Socioprofessional Relations factor scored an average of 2.07, indicating that interpersonal interactions in the workplace are relatively satisfactory, although there are areas for improvement, such as cooperation among colleagues and managerial support. Meanwhile, the Work Conditions factor presented the lowest average score of 1.88, suggesting that although challenges exist, the physical and structural conditions of the work environment are generally satisfactory. The study concludes that improving the work environment and aligning demands with team capacity requires actions such as revising goals, redistributing tasks, implementing regular breaks, and fostering participatory management. These measures reduce stress, increase productivity, and promote a healthy work environment.
