SUMMARY:

Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) are considered a serious public health problem and constitute adverse events that can interfere with patient safety. This study aims to carry out a descriptive analysis of IRAS in hospitals in the State of Amazonas from 2018 to 2022. This is an ecological, descriptive, retrospective study with a quantitative approach. The data were made available by the Health Surveillance Foundation of the State of Amazonas (FVS-RCP). Data from all reporting hospitals that have ICU/Adult beds, cesarean section, primary knee arthroplasty, primary hip arthroplasty, breast implant, coronary artery bypass surgery and internal neurological shunt were included in the study. The Incidence Densities (ID) of HAIs that occur in the ICU/Adult were calculated, as well as the rates of Surgical Site Infections for surgeries with mandatory national notification. The data was tabulated in Excel spreadsheets and presented in the form of graphs and tables. The results show that the State of AM received data from 27 hospitals with ICU beds over time. The HAIs with the highest Incidence Density (DI) were Ventilation-Associated Pneumonia (VAP). The lowest DI was Urinary Tract Infection Associated with Indwelling Bladder Catheter (UTI-AC). The most prevalent Surgical Site Infections (SSI) over the years was the Myocardial Revascularization site with a rate of 15.67% in 2018, although it has decreased over the years, it was still the site with the highest rates in relation to other surgical sites. The second site with the highest infection rates was neurological internal bypass surgeries with a rate of 8.73% in 2021, but there was a drop of almost half in 2022, reaching 4.38%.
