SUMMARY:

Background: Professional training in the health sector is a comprehensive process that prepares individuals into careers dedicated to the care and promotion of human health. During the degree, students receive a solid foundation of theoretical and practical knowledge in different practical and theoretical disciplines. In addition to academic training, professionals in health must also have interpersonal, ethical and teamwork skills, as They often deal with patients in delicate and complex situations. The institutions of higher education have been seeking strategies to achieve the training of health professionals increasingly capable of acting in response to the real needs of populations, aware of the social determinants of health and the numerous aspects related to the health process illness. At the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte there is an innovation initiative curriculum, in which a curricular component was inserted into the curricula of health courses called Health and Citizenship- SACI. Objective: to investigate the contributions that the SACI curricular component promotes the training of students on courses in the health area of UFRN according to what is recommended in the DCN, relating to the theoretical references of problematizing Education and Complex Thinking. Methodology: Research mixed case study methods, exploratory and analytical, with a qualitative approach. You data came from different sources such as portfolios built by students, interviews and online questionnaires applied to teachers of courses that have SACI in their CVs. The analysis was carried out using the content analysis technique with the aid of the software Atlas. you. Results: It is clear that initiatives for curricular inclusion of components that agree with the Curricular Guidelines and that insert students into the daily reality of services in the community and in an interprofessional way, as is the case of SACI, promote a more critical and reflective training in order to contribute to a more professional practice safe and consistent with the asymmetries found in society. Furthermore, a theoretical basis such as Problem-Based Education and Complex Thinking, causes positive consequences for professional training in health courses. Final considerations: It is expected to contribute to expanding the discussion about curricular strategies to achieve competent health training to work in different scenarios and levels of health care, mainly in the Unified Health System.
