Essays on Labor Economics in the Northeast in a Pandemic Period.
Work, Northeast, Survival, Kaplan-Meier
The purpose of this study is to analyze the permanence of workers in jobs in the Northeast region in 2021, after the start of the COVID-19 health crisis. The study seeks to determine if there are differences in the duration of jobs between the states of the Northeast and their capitals. In addition, the study includes the evaluation of the economic activity sectors of companies and the comparison of the survival of jobs according to variables such as age, income, education, race, and sex of workers. To do this, the non-parametric method of survival analysis is used, estimating survival curves using Kaplan-Meier estimators. The results indicate a greater permanence in employment for workers in the capitals of the Northeast, for female workers, non-black, with higher income and age, and who work in the trade and services sector.
