Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is considered the most common endocrinopathy in the reproductive phase of women, with a prevalence of up to 26%. In addition to hormonal and reproductive changes, cardiovascular risk factors (CVD) such as visceral obesity, infertility, chronic low grade inflammation, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus and insulin resistance (IR) are common. In general, PCOS is the most common cause of anovulation and evidence suggests that vitamin D deficiency has been associated with adipogenesis, insulin resistance, diabetes and obesity which may be primary factors in the development of PCOS. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of hypovitaminosis D in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and its associated factors. The study population was composed of 100 women, aged between 18 and 40 years. For the clinical variables, a linear regression test was performed, and the variables presenting p <0.15 entered the multivariate regression test to evaluate the possible relationships of serum vitamin D values with the other study variants. The tests were considered statistically significant at p <0.05. The mean age of the study participants was (26.49 ± 5.02) and BMI (29.95 ± 5.57 kg / m2). Most of the women were obese and overweight (52.5%) and (30.5%). The prevalence of overweight and obesity is higher in women with PCOS, when compared to the general population, reaching almost 80% of these women. In relation to the modified Ferriman-Gallwey score, the mean was (13 ± 5.26), presenting a mean of high score for hirsutism and (62.7%) presented infertility The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency until the given moment was (5.13%), remained low when compared to the literature in patients with PCOS. Regarding hypovitaminosis, it presented 55.17% (insufficiency 50% and deficiency 5.17%), and sufficiency of (44.83%), respectively. In the univariate analysis, it was significant (p <0.15) with vitamin D serum levels, ginoid fat, 120 min glucose and urea. After the multivariate analysis, establishing significance (p <0.05), only the gynoid fat continued to present statistical difference. Ginoid fat had an inverse relationship with vitamin D (β: -0.45; EP: 0.22). Vitamin D levels vary with body mass in PCOS, many studies have reported inverse associations between body weight (BMI, body fat and waist measurements) and serum 25OHD levels in women with PCOS. Considering the partial results, it can be observed that the socio-demographic profile of the volunteers remained similar when compared to previous studies of PCOS. It was also observed that even with a sunny climate in the Northeast, most women presented with hypovitaminosis D, which may be a complicating risk factor for PCOS, since it is part of glucose homeostasis and in the modulation of the insulin.
