SUMMARY:

This research aims to examine the effects of market-driven logic on education systems, with a focus on the continuing professional development of teachers in the municipal state school system in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. The study focuses on analysing the programmes implemented through agreements between the Municipal Department of Education and the Ayrton Senna Institute and the Lemann Centre, covering the period from 2020 to 2025. Consequently, this research is guided by an investigative approach into the impacts of privatisation measures on education. The data comprising this research were obtained through documentary and bibliographic analysis, by consulting national, state and municipal legislation, and by mapping privatisation measures via access to the official websites of the city council, the Municipal Education Secretariat (SME) and the institutions under investigation, as well as through consultation of Transparency Portals. With regard to the impacts of PPPs on the provision of continuing professional development, we highlight the loss of professional autonomy resulting from the standardisation of training materials, work overload and the devaluation of professionals due to the precarious nature of their employment. Based on an analysis of the Municipal Law on Public-Private Partnerships, we observe the strengthening of PPPs in the municipality of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, intensifying the competition for public funds and the drive to dismantle public education.
