Anti-racist Education; Practices and Representations; Teachers; Early Childhood Education; Law No. 10.636/2003.
Even after more than two decades since the implementation of Law 10.639/2003, cases of prejudice and racial discrimination are still very frequent in our society, especially in school settings, where Black children are affected daily by racist situations. Given this context, the following questions emerge: How have teachers addressed these discussions and developed their classroom practices even after the implementation of this law? What are the practices and representations of these teachers regarding ethnic-racial relations in early childhood education? Are teachers working from the perspective of the law in combating prejudice and racial discrimination and promoting anti-racist education? Based on these questions, this research aimed to analyze the practices and representations of early childhood education teachers regarding ethnic-racial relations in public schools in Caicó/RN, seeking to understand how teachers have addressed these discussions in overcoming racism and building an anti-racist education. In the theoretical framework, Cavalleiro (2001) proposes discussions to rethink the school and reflect on strategies to combat racism in the school environment based on teaching practice grounded in anti-racist education. Roger Chartier, in turn, presents relevant discussions on practices and representations, since the aim is to analyze teachers' practices and representations of ethnic-racial relations in schools. The methodological field of the research is based on the theoretical-methodological frameworks of qualitative research, through ethnography, mainly due to its potential to investigate issues related to the school environment. This instrument can enrich the educational intervention of qualitative research anchored in the thought and discussions of authors such as Lüdke and André (2015) and Marly André (1995), as well as Bogdan and Biklen (1994), with discussions on the qualitative approach.
