Fundamentals of Education Books. Procedure of Comparative
Education. History of Comparative Education. Pedagogy courses at the
Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte and the Federal University of Paraíba.
The Fundamentals of Education books, as cultural and intellectual objects that
implicitly bring their pedagogical and formative uses, consisted of a
comparative study of this doctoral dissertation, whose author is a member of
the Research Groups Historical-Educational Studies (CNPq/UFRN) and
Women's Education in the 19th and 20th centuries (CNPq). In the rigor of the
comparative education history writing of the Fundamentals of Education
books, recommended for reading and study by teachers, to students of the
Pedagogy courses of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN,
acronym in Portuguese) and the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB, acronym
in Portuguese), we defined as a theme school literature and formation of the
pedagogue and the educator. We chose as object of study the books of
Fundamentals of Education (History of Education, Sociology of Education,
Philosophy of Education, Psychology of Education and Pedagogy) of the
Pedagogy courses of UFRN and UFPB from the period 1968-1980. The main
objective of the dissertation is to characterize, analyze and distinguish, by
numerical and percentage values and through the comparative procedure,
the books of Fundamentals of Education recommended in the Pedagogy
courses of UFRN and UFPB, concomitantly with the public policies of distribution
and/or donation of these university books. In this mixed research dissertation,
we propose as theoretical-methodological guidelines the combination of the
comparative approach with the quantitative procedure, whose emphasis was
limited to the elements of similarity, difference, and otherness. For the analysis
of the documentary corpus (books of History of Education, Sociology of
Education, Philosophy of Education, Psychology of Education and Pedagogy,
records of acquisitions, and records of books, inventory of cultural assets, online
catalogs, federal, and state legislation, university resolutions, among others),
we made use of the theorizations referring to the procedure of comparative
education of scholars such as Lourenço Filho, António Ferreira, António Nóvoa,
Suely Kofes, and Suely Bonitatibus, which allowed us to understand
comparatively the diversities of this school and pedagogical literature with
regard to the elements of similarity, difference and otherness, and theirdestination in the interdisciplinary formation of pedagogues and educators, in
the light of an internationalized perspective. The thesis we defend is that the
researched books of Fundamentals of Education show current flow, when the
year of publication and the year of entry/acquisition registration are estimated,
which demonstrates that there was a current relevance in the interdisciplinary
formation of pedagogues and educators in the Pedagogy courses of UFRN
and UFPB from 1968 to 1980. The main conclusion is that, due to a significant
industrial production and remarkable circulation, especially in the Brazilian
academic territory, the Fundamentals of Education books researched
legitimized pedagogical ideas/knowledge, concepts, methodologies,
educational values for an interdisciplinary and (inter)nationalized academic
formation of the pedagogue, the educator and the specialist in school
education of the Pedagogy courses of university institutions, particularly those
of UFRN and UFPB (1968-1980). The books on Fundamentals of Education serve
as inspiration and educational memory for studies of the History of
Comparative Education in this period and in others.
