SUMMARY:

This dissertation analyzes the underground music scene in the city of Natal (RN), taking the Backstage Bar as its main empirical site. The venue is understood not merely as a place for live performances, but as a central space for the articulation of the local underground scene. More than a bar, Backstage functions as a recurring meeting point where practices, rituals, and networks of sociability that sustain the underground scene in Rio Grande do Norte are concentrated, operating as a privileged environment for the production of sensory, bodily, and relational experiences. The aim of this study is to understand how sound, the body, and forms of sociability are articulated in the constitution of the underground as a specific collective experience, marked by affects, intensities, and shared practices. The theoretical framework engages with authors such as Steve Goodman, particularly through the concepts of sonic warfare and the vibrational continuum; Michel Maffesoli, with his notion of sociability and urban tribes; and Peter Sloterdijk, through his reflections on atmospheres, resonance, and spatiality. Methodologically, the research is based on ethnographic observation, field notes, and the analysis of interactions, practices, and discourses observed during musical events. The analysis shows that sound operates as a vibrational force capable of mobilizing collective affects, calling bodies into participation and producing shared atmospheres that sustain social bonds. Practices such as the mosh pit, pre- and post-show encounters, and dynamics of collaboration among bands and attendees reveal specific forms of sociability that are organized beyond formal institutional structures. It is concluded that the underground scene in Natal, observed through the Backstage Bar, constitutes a social experience marked by intensity, bodily presence, and the collective construction of belonging.
