“HOW TO DO...”: AN ANALYSIS OF “DIY” AND THE RENEWAL OF COOPERATION THROUGH THE "AMANDA M. ALVES" CHANNEL

The ability of the human being on transformingtheir surroundings in favor to their needs through manual skills is a fact that can be observed from ancient times, going through centuries and keeping untilnowadays. During the period before the Industrial Revolution, manual labor was the main toolfor the production of material goods, but the dawn of the machinery era changed this reality. Nevertheless, during the twentieth century, it is possible to notice a social movement that inspired people to perform activities for their own benefit. This was the time the term Do It Yourself (DIY) was first used. This practice was better developed during the punk movements through the production of the so-called “fanzines”. During the past few years, the Do it Yourself has become popular through social networks, with tutorials on how to run services and create your own objects. The Youtube is one of the most important social networksin terms of DIY content. The aim of this workis topresent a beyond understandingon the reasons that lead people to jointhe Do It Yourself practice. Also the main objective here is to analyze how the DIY on Youtubeacts as a practice that restore, renews and strengthens the cooperation.This is a qualitative typeresearch and the Youtube channel “Amanda M Alves” was taken as the locus. Also, netnographic method (KOZINETS, 2014), semi-structured interviews and analysis of content were applied in order tobetter understandhow exchanges between actors in the network results in cooperation. As a basis for the reflection, the following categories were taken into account: The Craftsman (SENNETT, 2013), The Gift (MAUSS, 2003), Collective Intelligence (LEVY, 2010) and Together (SENNETT, 2012).
