morphology, soil classes, erosion processes, Bom Jesus / RN.
The gap between the products of soil and relief surveys at regional scales and the demands for detailed knowledge on a local scale has resulted in the use of landscape units in disagreement with the appropriate technical characteristics. The use of regional scales as a reference source of studies is not always consistent with the reality of the classes and attributes of the geological and geomorphological compartments of specific areas, with dimensions, especially when they require more scientific details of soil properties to be used by society. Thus, the morphological studies at a semi-metric scale of the municipality of Bom Jesus / RN, proposed in this research, involve theoretical-conceptual and empirical surveys in the fields of geology, geomorphology, vegetation cover, climate, hydrography, land use and occupation associated with field practices (for drilling and opening of trenches with sample collection), laboratory analysis and digital image processing techniques. The use of free software Quantum Gis v. 2.18, allowed by means of the use of shapefiles and raster images of the Alos Palsar Satellite, with a spatial resolution of 12.5 m, to assist in the elaboration of maps in the fields of geology, geomorphology, hydrography, altimetry/slope and land use and occupation, contributing to a better understanding of the relationship of these features to the soils that cover the municipality of Bom Jesus / RN, in the perspective that after the studies, the research allows theoretical and practical subsidies to the decision making by public managers in the environmental organization of the municipality. Decisions are based on the human-nature interrelations always aiming at the use and sustainable occupation of the resources that the soil can offer the local communities.
