SUMMARY:

Bacteria are prokaryotic microorganisms that colonize a wide variety of ecosystems. Their impact on public health is significant, as they can play beneficial roles, such as in the human microbiota, or act as pathogenic agents responsible for various infections and diseases. The rising bacterial resistance, particularly in Acinetobacter baumannii, which possesses multiple virulence factors, has become a critical public health issue, especially in hospital settings. This situation is exacerbated by the inappropriate use of antibiotics, which not only facilitates resistance but also limits treatment options. Simultaneously, cancer represents another major concern, being one of the leading causes of death worldwide. This chronic disease is influenced by both endogenous factors, originating internally, and exogenous factors, such as diet and exposure to carcinogens. Early detection is crucial, as it allows for therapeutic interventions such as chemotherapy and immunotherapy. The enhancement of TsAP-2 properties directs its activity toward combating bacterial cells, tumor cells, or biofilm formation. The investigation focuses on the amphipathicity and antibacterial properties of antimicrobial peptides, seeking effective alternatives for infection treatment. Structural modification in terms of charge and hydrophobicity is a strategy to improve efficacy in aqueous environments. This line of research is essential, as bacterial resistance and biofilm formation can significantly impact peptide action. The results show low hemolysis and specific activity against A. baumannii, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic alternative. The complexity of interactions between synthetic peptides and bacteria suggests that the efficacy of Ts-MAP2 may vary across strains, indicating the need for further studies.
