SUMMARY:

The present study seeks to analyze the documentary collection of the National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform of the State of Rio Grande do Norte (INCRA/RN) through the understanding of how the activities related to the operations of organization and digitization of physical documents on paper take place, in order to establish clear guidelines for the digitization of these documents. From a specific perspective, in the case of modern archival collections, the work brings a reflexive look between Information Management and Archivology, with a view to enhancing the power of information, as well as giving information the value of an input for social transformation. It is configured as an applied, descriptive and exploratory research, using the inductive method and for data collection using documentary and bibliographic research. Currently, INCRA has an Electronic Document System (SEI) platform, therefore, currently, the vast majority of documents are processed within this system. The great challenge is the digitized documents, coming from the institution's old processes, which do not have a defined standardization. It brings concepts and applications focused on the following themes: Information Management, Information Management applied to Documents and its relationship with Archivology, Preservation, Conservation and Digitization and Access, which points to Information Management as a guiding strategy for the solution with regard to the processes of mapping and analysis of the use and application of information, related to the collection, analysis, storage and dissemination of information.
