SUMMARY:

Abstract

Cardiorespiratory arrest is one of the main cardiovascular emergencies, with high morbidity and mortality rates among the population. Training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) management must focus on the acquisition of practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and professional attitudes. The use of the emergency cart is paramount, as it contains all the materials and equipment necessary for the victim's survival.

The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) facilitates access to essential items, standardizes medications, materials, and equipment in the emergency cart, establishes routines for organization, verification, and testing, defines responsibilities, and provides safe, efficient, and quality care.

The objective of this study is to develop and present a Standard Operating Procedure for the use of the Emergency Cart for the nursing team involved in the clinical management of Cardiorespiratory Arrest in the Medical and Surgical Clinic units of a private hospital in the city of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte (RN), Brazil. This is a Convergent Care Research (CCR) study with a qualitative approach. The project will be developed through a focus group using rounds of conversation with a pre-established script, involving nurses and nursing technicians from the inpatient medical and surgical units.

The study will be analyzed using Atlas.ti® software and Lawrence Bardin’s Content Analysis. It is expected that this Standard Operating Procedure will contribute to improving the quality of nursing care provided at the research hospital, thus ensuring greater safety for the patients in the study setting.
