RESUMO:

In the last decades, the great Brazilian cities have grown very fast and the sharp population growth
has provoked great inconveniences for the population, which coexists with daily traffic jams in their
daily life, which ends up harming the quality of life of the population, lately several studies have been
developed looking for ways to reduce the number of cars to reduce congestion, so ways to
streamline traffic have been implemented to improve the lives of the population. An option to
improve public transport would be automatic passenger counting, which could be used for the
management, planning and proper planning of collective transportation, since it would provide the
adequacy of the transportation service according to the demand collected, with the main objective of
improving the service. In this context, this paper will present a proposal for the creation of a low cost
device for detecting and counting people within public transport. The counting will take place
through an installed camera that will count how many passengers enter and leave the bus,
positioned to detect and count passengers passing through a predetermined area. To perform this
task will be used a device Raspberry Pi 3, in which the camera will be docked, the initial tests were
performed using the features an object counter using the algorithms of Haar and the neural network
Yolo.
