SUMMARY:

The purpose of this study is develop tourist routes for the Aspirant Seridó Geopark, in the State of Rio Grande do Norte, Northeast Brazil, in order to foster the development of sustainable tourism in the territory, seeking to analyze the involvement of different actors in the participatory process of creation. The search for the construction of regional development through tourism involves the elaboration of numerous steps that together result in the promotion of tourism. The elaboration of tourist itineraries, one of these stages, meets the needs of visitors and presents the regional identity of the locality, resulting in the stimulation of the regionalization of tourism, where the territory is analyzed as a social transformer, and not only identified as a territorial space. Regarding the methodological procedures, this was an exploratory study with a qualitative approach. Questionnaires were applied and interviews were held with actors who play roles in the elaboration and commercialization of tourist itineraries for the territory of the Aspirant Seridó Geopark and with the community, besides the use of bibliographic review and research in scientific articles, dissertations, theses and books on the theme. With that, it was reached the development of three routes, contemplating the whole territory of the Aspirant Seridó Geopark, subdivided by regions that facilitate the logistic aspects and that, at the same time, can be worked in an integrated way: Rout Seridó North, Rout Seridó Central and Rout Seridó South, with objectives achieved as to the valuation of the environmental, cultural and social aspects of the region and the generation of sustainable development, taking into consideration the opinion of the local communities. It is expected that the creation of the mentioned tourist routes will provide a better social insertion of the community in the tourist activities, promote the community empowerment and strengthen the tourist activity, taking into consideration the existing cultural diversity and the possibility of increasing the local revenue in a sustainable way.
