Governance in Tourism: the process of stakeholders participation in regional bodies

Social participation is understood as a relevant fator in the elaboration and management of tourism public policy, becoing a concept ‘politically correct’ supported by the academic discourse and public managers. Given this contexto, this research is based on the questions: What is social participation? Does the model adopted by the regional body imply the type of participation? How is the process of participation in tourism governance developed? What variables constitute the dimensions of tourism governance? These questions underpin the central objective: to inestigate whether social participation in regional governance bodies in effective, generating satisfactory results for the development of tourism in the region. To make the research methodologically viable, a paradigmatic approach was used, with the adoption of multiple methods, based on qualitative and quantitative instruments and procedures. The object of study refers to four instances of consolidaded regional governance in Brazilian tourism. The presente proposal has the relevance of bringing to light the debate about social participation in the governance of tourism. It is understood that the two themes need further study of correlated studies. Similarly, by raising the participation variables and the dimensions of governance, a valuable contribution will bem ade to the understandind of the dynamics of teh relations of actors who act in the governance of tourism, generating subsidies for managers and those stakeholders in tourism governance.
