BIG AREA: Ciências Sociais Aplicadas
AREA: Turismo
SUMMARY:

A tourist destination should not be considered sustainable if it is not accessible, as these are related themes that approach issues in common and therefore they should not be discussed disassociated. Based on this assumption, reflections are made: How is accessibility considered in studies of sustainability models of tourist destinations? How do people with disabilities (PWD) and experts perceive accessibility in Brazilian Coastal Tourist Destinations? How Accessibility Indicators should be correlated with Sustainability Indicators, both in the context of Coastal Tourist Destinations, to derive an Accessible Sustainability Index for these locations? What is the level of Accessible Sustainability in Brazilian Coastal Tourist Destinations? From these questions, the present research has as its central objective: construct and empirically validate an Accessible Sustainability Assessment Model for Coastal Tourist Destinations (MASA). For this purpose, a multiparadigmatic approach guided the construction of knowledge, and bibliographic and field research constituted the methodological bases of scientific research. As a study area, Brazilian coastal tourist destinations and the Sun and Beach segment, important in the scope of national tourism. The relevance of this proposal is due to the possibility and need to update and advance existing sustainability models, which should be guided by an increasingly social and inclusive bias. Similarly, this research could contribute to the empirical debate on sustainability in tourism, supporting the realization of this meaning. The preliminary results of this investigation, which describe the data obtained in the Field Study, point to central issues that should be considered in the construction of Accessible Sustainability Assessment Model
indicators such as flexibility, attitudinal accessibility and programmatic accessibility.
