RESUMO:

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is an opportunistic virus responsible for high morbidity and mortality in kidney transplant patients. Mechanisms by which CMV infects the system immune is an important problem in renal transplant. Viral escape may be involved with immunoregulatory molecules like human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-G that down-regulate immune system cell, helping CMV subvert host defenses. HLA-G mRNA transcripts that include 14-bp resulting in HLA-G more stable than the complete mRNA forms. This influences the stability of the HLA-G protein and, facilitates CMV infection in renal transplant recipients. We analyzed HLA-G 14-bp polymorphism on a total of 70 northeastern Brazil's individuals who underwent renal transplantation. 32.8% (23/70) patients are CMV positive and 67.2% (47/70) are CMV negative in serum sample. The positive results to CMV infection showed one genotype expression of HLA-G 14-bp polymorphism of 69.6% (-14/+14-bp) and 30.4% (-14/-14-bp) (P= 0.10) and allele expression of 65.2% (-14-bp) and 34.8% (+14-bp) (P= 0.51). Our findings were not significant; however, clinical studies reveal that HLA-G 14-bp polymorphism is one gene immunosuppressive susceptibility that is associated with disease development, suggesting that HLA-G molecule is popossibly involved in the pathogenesis of the viral infection.
