RESUMO:

The increasing demand for wireless broadband access to the Internet requires both the development of more efficient access technologies as well as the allocation of new frequency bands in the electromagnetic spectrum for such purpose. One technological alternative is the development of systems capable of coexisting opportunistically with systems actually owning the right to access the frequency bands (i.e. primary users - PU) and even with other opportunistic systems (i.e. secondary users - SU). One of the most immediate opportunities for such type of systems occurs due to the conversion of TV broadcast systems from analogical to digital. As the frequency bands allocated for analogical systems are distinct from those of the digital systems, this creates the so-called TV White Spaces (TVWS) in spectrum. There are standardization efforts to ensure that PUs shall not be affected by the operation of SUs coexisting in the same TVWS bands, but there are few initiatives to ensure a "pacific" coexistence of different SU systems in the same frequency band(s). In this work, we propose solving the problem of coexistence between different SU systems operating in the same TVWS band(s). We describe the distinct problems faced on selected scenarios and, for each scenario, we present coexistence strategies allowing the SU systems to operate in a decentralized way (i.e. without the need for a centralized entity), with preference for solutions which are autonomous and/or distributed.
