DETERMINANTS OF CRYPTOCURRENCY ADOPTION BY TRAVELERS: VALIDATION OF THEORETICAL MODEL PROPOSAL
Cryptocurrencies; Blockchain; Travelers; Technologies; Technology Acceptance Model.
Tourism activity has been heavily impacted due to technological innovations being implemented in the market. Virtual currencies, called cryptocurrencies, have stood out for being a technology derived from the blockchain, a decentralized platform that does not require intermediation. In this regard, tourists are beginning to discover cryptocurrencies as a tool that offers many opportunities, simplifying international transactions and overcoming the associated foreign currency exchange costs. Therefore, the acceptance of cryptocurrencies by travelers has become a relevant area of study for tourism, as it is a technology that can change the way these travelers carry out their payment transactions on their trips. The main objective of this study is to analyze the factors that determine the adoption of cryptocurrencies as a form of payment by travelers, through a proposal for a theoretical model based on the technology acceptance model (Davis, 1989), adding the dimensions "transaction resources", “regulation” and “perceived safety”. This research is descriptive and exploratory, with a quantitative approach. Its target population consists of Brazilian travelers over 18 years old, regardless of the tourist segment, who intend to use cryptocurrencies as a form of payment on their next trips, with the intention of reaching 260 respondents. Data will be collected in person from January to March 2022 in hotels located in Natal/RN, through a structured and closed questionnaire. After collection, the data will be processed using IBM SPSS version 22 software for Windows. For its analysis, descriptive statistics, multivariate analysis, exploratory factor analysis and structural equation modeling will be used to test the hypotheses proposed in this research.
