SUMMARY:

Interacting with different sectors of society, tourism is responsible for moving the localities in which it is inserted in different perspectives, whether as economic activity, sociocultural phenomenon, social practice, factor of local development, among other aspects. The factors that determine the effects that tourism may have on society are linked to the adaptation of the type of tourism that the locality will develop, together with the way in which the activity will be managed, with a view to the well-being and participation of those who, in fact, they will feel the effects caused by the practice: the population. Thinking in this context, the present thesis suggests the use of evolutionary models of tourism proposed by Butler (1980), Coelho and Butler (2012) and Coelho and Lourenço (2015), intending to verify the consistency and applicability of the model adapted from the Tourism Area Life Cycle - TALC in a different reality from that performed by Coelho and Lourenço (2015) expanding the analysis in the initial stages of exploration and involvement. The aforementioned model presents a descriptive instrument proposing a period of evolution of tourism based on the initiation of activity in the place, followed by the development process presented by distinct and sequential phases. It suggests a Tourism Area Life Cycle, with a base “S” curve, highlighting the undulating tourist activity in the illustration. He explains that there are at least six phases present in this cycle: exploration, involvement, development, consolidation, stagnation and rejuvenation or decline. During the studies, the intention for tourist analysis in places already developed for tourism was noticed, however, this thesis considers the importance of destinations that are starting their tourist activity in measuring their attractions and potentials in order to accompany their evolutionary process and allow the possibility creating forecasts to expand the options for planning and creating / updating / managing areas and attractions. The methodology used will be of a quantitative character, having as sample the municipalities belonging to the Seridó / RN pole that have been inventoried within the methodology of the Ministry of Tourism. Primary and secondary sources, provided by INVTUR forms, can be used. The data collection technique will take place through the variables analyzed within the perspective of the tourism sector of Cooper et al (2007): attractions, accommodation, intermediaries, transport and public policies, and the Pearson's Coefficient will be used as the data analysis technique. type of technique that performs the correlation between variables.
