BIG AREA: Ciências Exatas e da Terra
AREA: Matemática
SUMMARY:

This research aims to investigate, from the Theory of Objectification (TO), the relationship with the knowledge in Astronomy of a group of mathematics teachers, as well as the positioning of these same teachers regarding the role of non-mathematical knowledge in their teaching practice. The choice of this theme was due to the fact that we consider that the teachers of Mathematics and Sciences should approach scientific knowledge so that there is no rupture between the disciplines of the area. The conceptual basis adopted followed the sociocultural perspective of TO, based on the works of Luis Radford. This theory conceptualizes learning as being the concomitant and intertwined processes of objectification and subjectivation, which leads the theory to care not only with knowing, but also with becoming. The process of objectification, in which, through joint work supported by a community ethics, knowledge is revealed in the consciousness of the students. It is also a social process through which the individual becomes progressively and critically aware of cultural, historical forms of thinking and doing; during this process, consciousness is formed and transformed. In the investigative course, we directed the study to qualitative research combined with an introduction course to Astronomy for mathematics teachers. Following this line of thought, we focused on the literature review, during which we surveyed the main works that address the theme of astronomy teaching in the formation of the mathematics teacher. The bibliography collected gave us some directions about what the content, diversity, and extent of the issues to be addressed in the course should be. TO be the theoretical framework that guided the didactic and pedagogical approach of the course, which means that the aforementioned theory guided the preparation of the course, the preparation of classes, and data collection. We chose to focus the course on the issues related to the Solar System, the movements of the planets and astronomical measurement systems. The didactic planning of the activities, based on the TO, followed the object structure - goal - task. The object is the know to be updated. The goal is the objective of the activity, and the task consists of problems that participants will investigate to achieve the goals. For data generation, we performed the formative action with five meetings, aimed at mathematics teachers of basic education, experienced through activities that associated astronomy and mathematics. For data collection, we use audio and video recording. For data processing [still in progress!], our basis was multimodal analysis, in which we will verify through image, verbal expression and written record the semiotic means used by teachers, thus identifying the processes of objectification and subjectivation. Finally, we will defend the thesis that an Astronomy course, involving the phenomena of the Solar System, anchored by TO, and mobilizing the mathematical knowledge underlying astronomical concepts, can lead mathematics teachers of basic education to reflect and express themselves about their longings in professional life.
